Service delivery remains key to public service mandate
18 May 2023
Public servants are duty bound to render good service.
The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, said this when addressing heads of governments departments serving in Boteti recently.
He said the current administration was on a five-year contract and for it to succeed, the public service should come to the party.
Mr Tsogwane said there was nothing wrong with political representatives seeking answers on behalf of the nation because doing so benefited public officers too.
He was not impressed that schools were in bad shape yet maintenance plans were available to guide and a budget released annually for that purpose.
The Vice President encouraged public officers to empower communities and be upfront at all times.
Regarding Mokobaxane/Kedia road, Mr Tsogwane said it needed re-gravelling especially the Kedia-Xhumo stretch.
“Every year you pass the budget for dry grading when there is no need for that. It is time for mindset change. Let us make sure that we play our role,” said Mr Tsogwane.
He also advised that grading of internal roads was not advisable as it might cause health hazards due to dust, adding that it was proposed that Constituency Community Projects (CCP) funds be used to pave long internal roads.
Mr Tsogwane complained that public officers were given powers to recruit, but did not do so, yet there were people who could fill posts.
He also talked about need to give an update on gender based violence and drug abuse as well as interventions for the public to appreciate the issues that remained a challenge even in schools.
Principal economic planner, Ms Lucy Shaka, said pavement of 900 metre Mopipi road and 900 metre Rakops road was valued at P4.5 million each, with one kilometer gravelling of Xere road worth P1 million.
Officer Commanding District N0 8 Senior Superintendent Nkwebi Chilisa said 151 people had been arrested in Boteti on 91 cases of drug abuse involving both the young and old.
He said teams were tasked to do public education on the effects of drug abuse in schools. ENDS
