Four students from Tonota Junior Secondary School will represent Botswana at the Junior Achievement (JA) Africa Company of the year competitions scheduled for December 3 -7 in Swaziland.

Speaking at the mentorship session held in Tonota on Saturday, the Junior Achievement Botswana (JAB) programme manager, Ms Onthatile Modise, said the students owned a company that scooped  first position at the national expose in June. Ms Modise said looking at the track record of the Junior Achievers’ companies, she was anticipating good performance at the Swaziland competition.

She said in 2010, two companies represented the country in Kenya and one of them from Kgalemang junior secondary in Serowe scooped position two while in 2011, a company from Mater Spei College also scooped position two in Ghana.

She said this year at the Youth Awards held in Turkey, Botswana companies emerged in the top seven and she was hopeful that even in Swaziland the company will be among the best.

One of the company members, Maatla Wageng said the company, dubbed Jean Co, makes jean bags that are sold at P30 each. Since its formation, the company has raised P750 . Ms Wageng said the target customers for the company are the youth and the members of the company make bags during their spare time. ENDS
