Celebrated gospel muso, Mmereki Marakakgoro’s footsteps in the music industry will be heard for many years to come.

Marakakgoro lived a fulfilling life in his professional and music career.
A memorial services themed: Celebrating the Life of a Legend, held in his honour Thursday at Serowe’s Mannathoko Junior Secondary School hall where he was a Guidance and Counselling teacher, was attended by scores of people who came to celebrate the life of a man who apart from being known for his soothing voice, was also a pastor, husband, father and was a friend to many.
Marakagoro met his demise over the Easter holidays in a car accident near Morupule Coal Mine in Palapye.
Mannathoko JSS head, Mr Ontiretse Lekoba, said Marakgoro taught at Lobsec, Maunatlala JSS, Denjebuya JSS, Boipelego JSS and Ranokanyane, among others.
Mr Lekoba said Marakakgoro connected well with pupils and in him, they lost the best counseller.
“The gap will never be filled. We believe God has a plan for us, hence he took him at this time,” stated Mr Lekoba.
Henry Rammai, a fellow Guidance and Counselling teacher, concurred that they lost a giant.
He said when Marakakgoro arrived at Mannathoko JSS, learners began to shift from him to Mr Marakakgoro, which at some point left him feeling out of place, but later realised that it was for the good of the learners and him as a teacher as he got to learn a lot from his senior.
Student representative, Otlhomame Kalayakgosi, said Marakakgoro was a blessing to them.
“He was a man full of jokes and the class was always fun with him. He would say when one passed by his classroom, they would wish they were in his class. He was also very strict. He would explain to you your crime and punish you later,” stated Ontlametse.
Marakakgoro will be buried Saturday at Masokola cemetery in Serowe.
Musician, Phempheretlhe Bafana Pheto said Marakakgoro was a bother in arms and assisted him in his music journey. Ends
