Water project to allow connections at Flowertown

04 Apr 2023

Completion of connection of Tswapong South villages to the Mahalapye Phase 1 project in November this year will allow Flowertown Phase 2 ward residents to connect water to their homes.

This was said by Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila in response to a question in Parliament on Monday.

Dr Mzwinila said the project was awarded to Welldone Communication/Landmark Project Joint Venture in November last year at a cost of over P239.7 million.

He said the project included construction of 20 million litres treated water reservoir, a pump station with associated works at the Mahalapye water treatment works, as well as 80 kilometres of network pipes at Flowertown Phase 2 ward.

He added that the project had already commenced and the contactor and engineer site were complete with design review complete and setting out having started and surveying of the pipe routes ongoing.

“My ministry is aware that most residents of Flowertown Phase 2 in Mahalapye have developed their plots and they are eagerly waiting for water connection which will be done during the ongoing project. Everything being equal, Flowertown Phase 2 will be connected with water immediately after completion of the project in November 2023,” he said.

However, he said the ministry was not aware of any attempts to award the tender to a different company.

He further noted that there were no delays since the project was already underway.

Mahalapye East Member of Parliament, Mr Yandani Boko had asked the minister if he was aware that residents of Flowertown Phase 2 were eagerly awaiting connection of water to the area.

Mr Boko also asked if the minister was aware that the project reticulating water to Flowertown Phase 2 ought to have resumed.

He also asked the minister to state when the project would get underway again as well as its envisaged date of completion.

He further wanted to know if the minister was aware that there were attempts to award the project to a different company, something which he said would cause unnecessary delays. ends
