Over half allocated
Batswana will forever admire President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi for his concerted efforts concerning land issues, doing all he could to ensure Batswana own residential plots and also be able to use their land for financial benefits.
One of the highlights was setting a target of 100 000 residential plots to be allocated to Batswana between during the 2022/23 financial year.
The Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs announced to have allocated 54 100 residential plots to Batswana in tribal areas between April last year and March 17 this year.
This has seen some land boards such as Borolong exceeding their set targets while also absence of waiting lists in some areas has been recorded.
Under President Masisi, Batswana witnessed the amendment of Tribal Land Act of 2018 and Batswana migrating from using old land certificates to the Secure land Title, hailed for its significant secure features.
Another first under his leadership, was the country introducing policy on the change of land use to enable Batswana to utilise their land for economic benefits, a move that witnessed a number of them venturing into Agro-tourism ventures and hosting events. This became possible following the review of Botswana land Policy of 2019. Ends
