Ngwaketse Land board has allocated 7 867 plots out of the district’s target of 21 974 plot, which translates to 36 per cent of the target.
Southern District Council chairperson, Mr Sonny Phiri said at the opening of the full council session that the land board had taken heed of the government’s commitment to have allocated 100 000 plots, being the national target by the end of 2022/2023 financial year.
“The coordinated management of land and improved upkeep of the environment is very critical if we are to achieve sustainable economic development in our district,” he said.
The land board intends to have allocated plots by end of March in Mogojogojo, Mmathethe, Gopong, Magotlhwane, Pitseng, Gasita, Maisane and Moshana, he said.
“Morever, Ngwaketse Land Board has outsourced survey of 11 Detailed Layout plans to private survey companies.
The 11 layouts are for the following villages, Manyana, Lotlhakane West, Gathwane, Gamajaalela, Kokong, Loporung, Mmakgori, Tshidilamolomo, Mabule, Lejwana and Lorolwane,” he said.
Mr Phiri said those plots would contribute to the 74 per cent plots remaining, adding they would be available for allocationby soon.
Furthermore, he said, the council was preparing a total of 20 layout plans as per the District Land Availability Plan.
“All the 20 layout plans are at a final draft stage.
Eight layout plans have been completed, nine layout plans from Mmathethe and Mabutsane Sub district are still at consultation stage, while the remaining three from Goodhope are to be redesigned,” he said.
On land re-registration, Mr Phiri said the land board had received a total of 51 310 applications for Secure Land Title, of which the board was able to produce 219.
“These low numbers [are] mostly attributable to the teething problems of the initiative,” he said. ENDS
