Supervisors working for government must be good role models, says State President MinisterMr Kabo Morwaeng. He was speaking during a meeting of heads of department in Letlhakane recently. 

He Said that government was committed to taking services closer to the people but the challenge was lack of supervision in the public service. 

Supervisors, he said, were failing to serve as good role models to their subordinates, adding that “your language as a leader should not be the same as that of your juniors,” he said. 

He urged supervisors to take responsibility and display good conduct, adding that Batswana were complaining about poor service delivery. 

Mr Morwaeng implored supervisors to take into consideration staff welfare and serve people with love, compassion while being firm. He said many families were going through tough times and officers could not even approach their supervisors because they feared them. Minister Morwaeng said, “As a leader expectation is that when you have problems, you should be able to approach your supervisors, and your juniors at the same should be able to approach you,” he said.

Furthermore, he said there was an accommodation challenge in Botswana and encouraged public officers to grab the opportunity and embark on real estate business. 

He also urged public officers to grab the accommodation gap identified in Letlhakane, whilst they still had the capability.

The minister was responding to issues of shortage of accommodation in Letlhakane raised during the meeting. 

Principal Human Resource manager at Boteti Sub-District Council Mr Chakalisa Chiuapo and Regional Health manager Ms Gasebotho Kedikilwe raised concerns that accommodation rates were exorbitant in Letlhakane due to the mines surrounding the village. Ms Kedikilwe said officers were declining transfers to Boteti due to the remoteness of the area. ends
