Joy Foundation in collaboration with Dinkgwana Chillas Pub and Grill will present A Re Itsaneng Ma Africa cultural show in Mochudi on May 4-6.
A Re Itsaneng Ma Africa event, showcasing traditional music, attire, art, food, dance and language as well as workshops, is a celebration of the culture and tradition of Africa. It show aims to educate the community about African culture and tradition while at the same time entertaining.
Briefing the media, the event organiser, Joy Setshedi said, “With this event, we will host various African ethnic groups in one place, exchanging cultures as Africans. We will have stalls/tent villages with focal people from different African ethnic groups, who will share knowledge on their respective culture, tradition and norms.”
Setshedi noted that the event would be different from the rest as it would not only showcase Botswana culture but Africa. She said with the help of various African countries’ Embassies/Missions in Botswana, they were able to extend invites to representatives of from interested countries. She said countries which had already confirmed attendance and participation included South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique, and Lesotho and with the Zulu, Xhosa, Shangaan and Venda ethnic groups from South Africa having confirmed their attendance and participation.
She further said they were in talks with other embassies to have them participate in the event. “This event has the potential to attract investors, not only cultural based and therefore in preparations we engaged with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Entrepreneurship as well as Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture as we believe they are all stakeholders in this,” said Setshedi.
She emphasised that the event was not a cultural festival but a showcase as it would not a have any performing artistes. “The cultural ethnic groups from various respective ethnic groups showcasing their culture and tradition will be the ones entertaining guests during the day with music and dance as well as poetry among others,” said Setshedi. She said they encouraged the corporate to adopt ethnic groups by sponsoring stalls for such groups. ENDS
