Molepolole police investigate murder suicide

Police in Molepolole are investigating a murder incident in which a 35-year-old man of Garanta ward in Molepolole is alleged to have been beaten to death by a mob at Khuduyamajako lands near Molepolole on Sunday.

In an interview, Molepolole station commander, Superintendent Benedict Matlho said it was alleged that the deceased had stolen some money from his aunt.

He said his lifeless body was spotted by passersby lying under a tree and alerted the police. The police then quickly rushed to the scene and took him to Scottish Livingstone Hospital, where he was certified dead upon arrival.

Supt Matlho said so far police had arrested two men in connection with the incident while investigations into the matter and possible more arrests continue.

Still on Sunday, Supt Matlho said they received a report of a suicide incident of a 33-year-old man of Legonono ward in Molepolole, who is reported to have hung himself on a tree at Legonono ward around 9pm.

He said passersby saw his motor vehicle parked suspiciously in the vicinity of the kgotla and when they approached the car they noticed that it was not locked and they found a suicide note inside.

Furthermore, Supt Matlho said they then searched around and saw his body hanging from a nearby tree.

Supt Matlho said police were also investigating a traffic accident that claimed two lives; a passenger and the driver of a Toyota Corolla in Molepolole in the wee hours of Saturday at Magokotswane ward.

It is alleged the car hit two horses before overturning. The woman is reported to have died the following day while the driver, aged 40 died Monday at Gaborone’s Princess Marina Hospital, where they had been admitted together with the other passenger, a male, who is reported to be in a critical state. Ends
