Upgrading of Mahupu secondary school commendable

18 Nov 2013

Letlhakeng West MP, Mr Ngaka Ngaka, has applauded government for having found it necessary to upgrade Mahupu Junior Secondary School in Takatokwane into a unified school. Students admitted at the school, he noted, would now go up to form five level.

Mr Ngaka was responding President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s State-of-the-Nation Address, which he said was rich in content and quite informative to the nation.

He also commended government for its efforts in transforming the lives of Batswana, saying some policies and programmes that it had come up with had already proved to be successful. However, Mr Ngaka said his constituency was lagging behind in developments, as it was faced with a serious challenge of shortage of resources.

He cited roads in his area, which he said were very bad as well as the health posts at Sesung, Mabalane and Salajwe, which he said should be upgraded. Mr Ngaka also said there were some people in his area who were denied the benefits of the poverty eradication programmes, when in fact they were struggling to make ends meet.

For this reason, he advised that the guidelines of the programme should be reviewed to accommodate other poverty stricken individuals.

“It is sad that there are some Batswana who are left out from the poverty eradication programme, who are clearly impoverished. People whom you do not even need to be a Social Worker to tell that they are poor, “  he added.

The Letlhakeng West MP also noted that there were no veterinary officers in his constituency, questioning that “since, under arable farming, temporary field assistants are employed during the ploughing season, can’t veterinary assistants also be employed in that manner?”

In addition, the MP said there was no chief education officer in Letlhakeng and someone had been acting on the post for 15 months now which affected the service delivery. He complained that the post of clerk at the Sesung Customary court has not been filled, something he said is affecting service delivery at the office.

The MP also said government’s take-over of Takatokwane brigade had not yet been done up to now, urging the Ministry Education and Skills Development to speed up the takeover process. ENDS
