The Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture says it remembers the late Mr Dickson Omphitlhetse Gabanakgosi as a jovial, cheerful and charismatic gentleman. 

A press statement from the ministry says Mr Gabanakgosi was a tireless worker who was instrumental in the formative years of Botswana Sport Administration. 

The statement says he was involved in the establishment of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, now the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture.” 

It further says contributed immensely to the growth of Botswana National Sport Council, now Botswana National Sport Commission, establishment of the Department of Sport and Recreation as well as that of Botswana National Olympic Committee offices. 

His love for football led him to assist the Botswana Football Association in various committees.

He also played a huge role in the construction of the National Stadium, says the release. 

The release says Mr Gabanakgosi was a former acting director in the Department of Sport and Recreation as well as a former employee of the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) on secondment by government and Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC), where he served as a protocol and public affairs officer. He will always be remembered for his role coordinating various Steering Committees of Sport, including the National Sport Appeals Board in its formative years, it says. 

As such his his immense contribution in the development of Sport in the country, will be greatly missed, says the release. Ends
