Lesaso calls for Innovation

It is ideal for brigades to be furnished with necessary skills and equipment to accommodate students from secondary schools, Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Aubrey Lesaso has said.
Speaking during a meeting with Madiba, Mahalapye and Shoshong brigades, Mr Lesaso said government was implementing quality innovations that would help with advancing the education system adding that they were on a fact-finding mission.
He described Madiba Brigade as an institution that used to be the best in yielding high-quality individual graduates.
He said the world was advancing technologically which challenged institutions to produce experts that would fit in running the country.
He encouraged lecturers to come up with a high-quality innovative education system which would have an impact on the development structure of the country.
He said graduates from brigades were ready for the job in the market due to intense practicals they go through.
Principal for Madiba, Mahalapye and Shoshong Brigades Ms Nametso Gopolang said their vision was to produce globally competitive human resource with the mission to provide efficient quality technical vocational education and training that is accessible to all.
She explained that Madiba Brigade was registered with Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) and runs accredited programmes/courses including Auto mechanics, Bricklaying and plastering, electrical installation and appliances, carpentry and joinery, plumbing and pipe fitting and also welding and fabrication.
She added that Mahalapye Brigade Centre was accredited for the Dressmaking programme at trade C and B levels respectively but awaiting accreditation for the new programme of Clothing Design and Technology.
She said Shoshong Brigades Centre was offering two programmes of Bricklaying and Plastering and Horticulture.
She indicated challenges of incomplete brigade structures, shortage of accommodation, delayed progression, business scare skills and technical assistants. Ends
