02 Feb 2023

The affirmative action framework for remote area communities is an instrument meant to fast-track developments and implementation of programmes at recognised RADP settlements including Qangwa and Xaixai
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ms Talita Monnakgotla said this when answering a question from Kgosi Tjazako Munduu of Ngami region during the Ntlo Ya Dikgosi session.

Kgosi Munduu wanted to know how the affirmative action programme operated looking at the situation in Qangwa and Xaixai villages.

Minister Monnakgotla said that guided by the revised remote area development programme of 2009, the affirmation framework provided broad goals, strategies and initiatives that various sectors were to pursue to attain accelerated developments and programme implementation.

On whether government employees and their children benefitted from such, she said the remote area development programme was specifically targeted towards development of recognised settlements and the residents thereof.

She said government employees and their children inevitably benefitted from the developments that were brought to the settlements under this programme such as improved infrastructure, telecommunication and electricity.

Regarding considering  providing government employees with transport during pay days, she said transportation of government employees and their children during paydays was undertaken in respect of XaiXai and Qangwa.
