Motsamai updates Bere Kacgae residents on projects

01 Feb 2023

Bere and Kacgae residents have been updated on development projects planned for the area.

Addressing kgotla meetings in the two villages recently, MP for Ghanzi South, Mr Motsamai Motsamai said the projects  included refurbishment of primary schools as well as Kacgae Tribal Administration structures during the transitional development plan period.

Kacgae Primary School would be expanded during the plan period, he said.

Mr Motsamai revealed that Charleshill Sub-district would be upgraded to a fully-fledged district council, a move, he said, that would improve service delivery.

He also said a magistrate court would soon be opened at Charleshill.

Meanwhile, residents have expressed concern about the condition of roads connecting their villages to the A3 Road.

The MP also heard that residents were forced to travel long distances to fetch water due to inadequate standpipes.

Bere residents complained that lack of electricity hampered development in the village while their Kacgae counterparts decried the high school drop out numbers saying some secondary level pupils abandoned their studies just to stay home.

Responding to the concern, a Ghanzi east sub-council official, Mr Moses Maphane reminded parents that it was their responsibility  to ensure that  children attended school.

Those neglecting their obligations would face the full wrath of the law, he warned.

Regarding inadequacy of standpipes, Ghanzi area Water Utilities Corporation manager, Mr Omphemetse Kealeboga promised to reopen some that were closed following acts of vandalism.

He challenged the community to fence off the standpipes as a security measure. BOPA
