Newly-created Good Hope council elects leadership
24 Jan 2023
Newly-established Good Hope District Council yesterday elected Mr Fanki Motsaathebe as its chairman assisted by Mr Ketlhogile Keipeile. Both were unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Motsaathebe said his election was a demonstration of councillors’ trust that he could take the district to great heights.
He pledged to implement the transitional development plan as well as President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s initiatives.
He said under his leadership, the council would be people-centered and ensure prioritisation of service delivery.
Mr Motsaathebe promised to ensure a good working relationship between councillors and public servants as that would guarantee desired outcomes.
The area MP and Minister of Transport and Public works Mr Eric Molale urged the new leadership not to forget that they were servants of the electorates and to always make decisions that would benefit the district as a whole.
He pointed out that Good Hope was made a fully-fledged district because government wanted to bring services closer to the people.
“Service delivery should be your priority and you must make sure that you maintain all the infrastructure such as clinics, roads and schools because now you have the powers to make all the decisions in your district,” said Mr Molale.
He urged all councillors to abide by the constitution and perform their duties diligently.
Mr Molale reminded councillors that while Good Hope was now a stand-alone district council, tribal territories remained unchanged.
“That should not in any way make you as authorities to be tribalistic when making decisions,” he said.
Mr Molale called on civil servants to rededicate their efforts and show allegiance to the new municipality.
He advised them to always share resources.
Another legislator, Specially Elected MP and Minister of Finance Ms Peggy Serame underscored Mr Molale’s point saying councillors were in office to serve the people.
She advised them to be always on the lookout for ways of generating income for the district and to be wary of corrupt practices.ENDS
