Residents plead for internal roads upgrading

Mogorosi residents have complained of bad internal roads, poor storm water drainage in their area.
During a kgotla meeting addressed by Serowe South Member of Parliament Mr Leepetswe Lesedi on Wednesday residents pleaded for a long-term solution for the problems, saying such would make life easier for them.
Apprising their MP on the state of the village, Kgosi Kago Pheretlhego said internal roads in their village were impassable during rainy seasons, adding that due to poor storm water drainage, rain water often caused damage to the roads.
Kgosi Pheretlhego therefore called on the legislator to facilitate the construction of culverts to help in controlling water movement and directing the water away from the roads as well as to improve the overall water drainage in the village.
However the headman expressed gratitude for some developments that were undertaken in Mogorosi, out of which he mentioned the graveling of 200 metres of internal roads and the ongoing installation of streets lights.
Nonetheless, he said as residents they were not pleased with the sluggish pace of the street lights installation project.
In her remarks, the Village Development Committee chairperson, Ms Ogomoditse Pheko said there was need for a bigger community hall with the capacity to hold large audiences.
She said the current hall was way too small to permit the village’s youth to host crowd-pulling activities of any sort.
“Our village has really grown in population, but because we lack a venue that is big enough to host certain events that are close to the hearts of our young people, some of them end up engaging in activities that are contrary to the law as a result of the lack of appropriate entertainment facilities,” she said.
Responding to residents’ concerns, Mr Lesedi informed them that the three Serowe constituencies would get 25 kilometres of internal roads through the Transitional Development Plan, and said he was hopeful that Mogorosi would be among the villages that would benefit.
Included in the plan, Mr Lesedi said, was a police post that would be built in either Mannathoko or Semane areas. The police post would be constructed in place of a police station that was initially scheduled to be built in Serowe, he explained. Ends
