15 Jan 2023
Residents of Xhumo have asked government to prioritise maintenance of Rakops Primary Hospital.
The Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Elijah Motsamai, said the hospital structures were dilapidated, therefore in need of major maintenance.
Presenting the VDC report during a kgotla meeting addressed by the Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane on Thursday, Mr Motsamai also requested for upgrading of Xhumo Health Post to a clinic with maternity wing.
In relation to education, Mr Motsamai indicated that Rakops Junior Secondary School and Xhumo Primary School classrooms needed major maintenance.
He said the perimeter fence at Rakops JSS was dilapidated.
The pupil hostels, he said, were also in dire need of maintenance.
Mr Motsamai requested for construction of a senior secondary school in Boteti West.
On other issues relating to improvement of the agricultural sector, Mr Motsamai appealed for an agricultural demonstrator to be based in Xhumo, saying that could help in improving food production.
Responding to the VDC report, chief education officer, Ms Milidzani Nduna said the process of maintaining the perimeter fence at Rakops JSS was ongoing.
As for the request of a senior secondary school in the area, Ms Nduna said the population of Boteti West did not meet requirements for a secondary school.
For her part, Dr Orapeleng Phuswane-Katse said funds permitting, a clinic with a maternity wing will be built in the village.
Dr Phuswane-Katse further indicated that renovation of Rakops Primary Hospital was underway.
She said the maintenance works started on January 5 and was expected to be finished end of August.
She also stated that there was a plan to construct LA2 houses for health workers in Xhumo. Ends
