National leaders need prayers

20 Dec 2022

Christians have been urged to desist from attacking the country’s leadership but to instead pray for them.
The appeal was made by Minister for State President Mr Kabo Morwaeng at a prayer session in Molepolole on Sunday.
He encouraged church leaders to abide by the scripture  exhorting clergy to pray for all leaders.
“Pray for our leaders so that they can be successful in their duties,” he emphasised.
Minister Morwaeng, who is MP for Molepolole South, said President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi needed prayers as he had never known peace since he ascended to the highest office in the land.
“People must know that under our Constitution, any Motswana regardless of where he or she comes from or which tribe they belong to, can run for any political office,” he said.
Mr Morwaeng assured his audience that government would always support the church and would never fight against any religion.
He acknowledged the role the church played before and after independence saying ‘for those who don’t know, when our three chiefs went to London, they were accompanied by a pastor from the London Missionary Society’.
“The church has become a crucial development partner. If the church and government each played their role, the country would become successful,” said Mr Morwaeng.
The minister explained that the limiting of congregants numbers imposed at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic was meant to curb the pandemic and was not an attack on the church.
He further explained that recent legislations affecting church operations were meant to protect the country from being greylisted.
Some people, he pointed out, had been using churches and non-governmental organisations for money laundering and funding of terrorism.
On other issues, Mr Morwaeng expressed concern about the high incidence of crime in Molepolole despite every household having a church member.
He therefore encouraged Christians to shine the light and preach the gospel within their families.
The prayers were organised by Molepolole for Jesus, an organisation made up of  different Christian denominations with the mandate of offering fervent prayers for the village which was plagued by a high crime rate. ENDS
