Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Ms Annah Mokgethi has tabled before Parliament her ministry’s programmes and projects to be funded with a total budget of over P232 million during the implementation of the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP).
She said the ministry intended to develop multifaceted digital online services and secure electronic National Identification System (e-NIS) that had the capacity to produce national identification documents like Omang, passport and driver’s license.
The total estimated cost of the computerisation project is P111.40 million.
She said her ministry requested P93 million for the provision of a secure environment, equipment and the major maintenance of the ministry’s infrastructure, that is office space and provision of housing across the country including border posts.
Ms Mokgethi said the ministry intends to conduct consultancies to facilitate the delivery of the projects under the Botswana Decent Work Country Programme which was a commitment by the tripartite in pursuit of decent work for the country.
She said the aim of the programme was to facilitate the establishment of an autonomous Dispute Resolution Structure, Workers’ Compensation Scheme and Social Protection Scheme for the workforce.
She said the two schemes would cushion employees against the adversity of workplace accidents, occupational diseases, retrenchments, invalidity, incapacity and loss of financial and material support. She said the total cost would be P27.8 million. Ends
