Dogs kill over 20 goats sheep

Some residents at a farm near Kopong were left devastated after more than 20 of their sheep and goats were killed by two dogs.
In an interview, Assistant Superintendent Shapson Mbuso of Mogoditshane police station confirmed receiving a report that some animals had been killed by dogs recently, adding that they were investigating the incident.
“We have received a report that dogs have killed some sheep and goats and investigations are ongoing. If found guilty the dog owners will be charged for recklessness and negligence,” he said.
Kgosi Michael Molefe was also distraught, saying ‘this kind of incident is overwhelming as residents transfer their livestock to their farms only for them to be killed by dogs from the very same village they transferred them from.’
He therefore advised dog owners to keep them on leashes to prevent them from attacking livestock.
One of the farmers whose livestock was attacked and killed, Ms Onkgopotse Sekobolo, said six sheep were killed on December 14, while seven sheep and seven goats were killed on the morning of December 15, bringing to 21 the number of animals she had lost.
“To confirm that these were killed by a dog, we found some dog prints in the kraal. We then confronted the owners but they denied that it was their dogs. We then decided report the incident to the police,” she said.
Her brother, Mr Ditlhare Sekobolo also appealed to dog owners to keep them on leashes.
“These dogs leave us broke. We earn a living from selling them (livestock),” he said. ENDS
