No EVM in 2024 general elections
15 Dec 2022
There are no plans to use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the 2024 general elections, a statement from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) reads.
The IEC says a decision to use the EVM would have been preceded by robust stakeholder engagement activities and appropriate amendment to the Electoral Act.
The statement from the IEC follows recent reports on the use of the EVMs in the 2024 elections.
“Therefore, the IEC informs members of the public that it remains committed not only to its constitutional mandate of delivering free, fair and credible elections, but to consulting all its stakeholders on all issues pertaining to electoral processes, including intended reforms thereto,” it says.
Additionally, the IEC has encouraged all stakeholders and the public who may wish to understand or raise an issue regarding electoral processes to come in person to the office of the IEC secretary for prompt and accurate information. ends
