Mamuno border post to operate 24 hours

13 Dec 2022

Residents of Charleshill and adjacent areas stand to benefit from the Mamuno border facility which will start operating 24 hours on April 1, 2023.

With 100 plus staff over and above the current numbers anticipated, there will be need for extra accommodation.

It is against this background that Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS) as lead agency, was tasked with accommodation issues.

Briefing Ghanzi district council recently, BURS communication specialist - northern region, Mr Mpho Maifala said extension of operating hours at Mamuno border facility meant accommodation for additional staff.

Mr Maifala said  BURS intended to run an expression of interest for that purpose, adding that a stakeholder engagement team would provide more details.

He said currently the border operated between 7am and 12am with 60 staff, including immigration and agriculture, generating between up to P13 million a month.

BURS customs manager - northwest, Mr Otsilegape Batlhalefi said they found it fit to consult the district leadership regarding the accommodation challenge.

The duo said the planned transformation of the same point to a one stop border facility in the near future, would lead to a further rise in demand for accommodation.

They however, said one stop border arrangement would require more operational space, hence it would take some time. ENDS
