12 Dec 2022

Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) employees have been commended for upholding the spirit of giving.

DCEC acting director, Mr Tshepo Pilane, said this when employees donated goods worth over P10 000 to Tshidilong Stimulation Centre recently.

The donation included toiletry, clothes and school shoes.

Mr Pilane said ‘Batswana have been known to be a compassionate nation with corporate social responsibility initiatives being adopted by both the private and government departments,” he added.

Mr Pilane noted that demonstrating compassion was also integral to Vision 2036.

He acknowledged that his organisation had also adopted the venture citing that for years, they had been giving to those less privileged.

DCEC, he said, did not have a budget for social responsibility activities as it relied fully on government funding.

The little that had been raised, he said, was through support from DCEC staff who found it fit to remember the less privileged in such trying times.

Mr Pilane thanked the staff for its dedication and support, adding their efforts could not go unnoticed.

“This would go a long way in augmenting other initiatives by different role players to ultimately steer Botswana towards prosperity for all as envisaged and endorsed by the essentials of Vision 2036,” he added.

So far, the organisation had done several activities in Maun such as backyard garden and providing basket of vegetables weekly to a pupil from Botswelelo Primary School whom they adopted.

The DCEC also built a one roomed house and also connected water in Botswelelo ward for the same child.

Deputy assistant district commissioner, Mr Ramogaupi Gaborekwe thanked DCEC staff for extending a helping hand to the centre saying that would help the nation to achieve aspiration of Vision 2036 pillar of prosperity for all.

The donation, he said would also help in producing the 21st century compliant learner adding that the organisation had made a mark which would go a long way in history.

The centre manager, Mr Ramoremi Mphothwe appreciated the gesture noting that the centre depended largely on donations.

He requested DCEC to walk the road with their organisation going forward.
