07 Dec 2022
North West District leadership has congratulated Mercy Khutsafalo for winning the Miss RADP 2022 title.
Councillors and senior government officials welcomed Ms Khutsafalo with ululations during a recent council meeting in Maun.
Giving a word of encouragement, the district commissioner, Mr Thabang Waloka told the queen that the crown came with responsibilities which she should honour and protect.
He advised her to be the voice of many Batswana, especially those in remote areas, since the Mr and Miss RADP pageant was meant to promote inclusivity and cultivate hope for them.
“You are an ambassador of Botswana and we trust that as beautiful as you are, even your inner soul is beautiful to carry this title with grace,” he said.
Mr Waloka called on councillors to support the queen in all her endeavours suggesting that she be engaged as the face of the North West District in its campaigns.
Council chairperson Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho told Ms Khutsafalo that she had made the district proud.
He informed councillors that she would be working closely with them and thus urged them to be hospitable in order for her to achieve Miss RADP goals.
Mr Ntsogotho further encouraged Miss RADP to continue upholding her values and working hard in order to leave an indelible mark in the lives of Batswana.
He advised her to stay focused saying many of her peers tended to lose focus when accorded opportunities.
Urging her not to ‘fall into that trap’, Mr Ntsogotlho said many young people wasted opportunities due to societal pressures.
Responding, Ms Khutsafalo promised to work hard and closely with young people in remote areas.
In addition, she pledged to continue working with the local and central government in raising awareness against social ills even after her reign ended.
Boro-Senonori ward councillor, Mr Kenson Kgaga said the district was blessed to have yet another beauty queen noting that Ms Khutsafalo’s victory followed that of Miss Botswana, Lesego Chombo.
Saying the Miss RADP title was very influential, especially to the people it represented, he urged Ms Khutsafalo to use her voice to reach out to remote areas.
Mr Kgaga advised the beauty queen to raise awareness against drug abuse and cultivate mindset change among the youth.
“You are part of the future of this country, so use this opportunity and hold workshops to speak to your peers, even those in your home village Somelo,” he advised. Ends
