Sexual reproductive health key in fighting HIVAIDS

05 Dec 2022

Promoting and mainstreaming sexual and reproductive health will go a long way in helping to combat HIV/AIDS.

That was said by Reverend Mpho Moruakgomo at the Ghanzi East Sub-district World AIDS Day commemoration recently.

Rev Moruakgomo said promoting and integrating sexual and reproductive health in every day’s agenda would also help to deal with HIV/AIDS stigma and associated challenges.

“The whole community including children should be engaged in discussions of sexual and reproductive health in relation to HIV/AIDS to help them make informed decisions,” he said.

He also encouraged the church to teach about sexual and reproductive health in order to save the nation from HIV/AIDS.

“If the nation is to defeat HIV/AIDS, services geared towards combating the scourge should not be discriminatory,” he added.

Kgosi Annah Rankho of Ghanzi Township, who was disappointed by low community turn over to the commemoration, emphasised the importance of mindset change in efforts to overcome HIV/AIDS.

“The tenacity to fight the pandemic should go on saying the war against HIV/AIDS is not yet over,” Kgosi Rankho said.

Meanwhile, District AIDS coordinator, Ms Dorcas Chilisa called on non-governmental organisations to complement government’s efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“Stigma and discrimination of sex workers and homosexuals impair government’s efforts to have an HIV/AIDS free generation,” she said.  ENDS
