Makwinja implores graduates to be agents of change

Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) has capped 727 graduates in masters degrees, first degrees, diploma and certificates in different programmes of study,  which the recipients have been urged to use to bring change to societies and workplaces.

“I am encouraging you to go out there to focus on your goals, build unto your strength and resilience, challenge yourself to break out of your shell and bring in new ideas and new ways of doing things,” stated Acting Minister of Education and Skills Development, Ms Naniki Makwinja during the college’s graduation ceremony in Gaboroneon Saturday.

Ms Makwinja said that the era of digital economies and other new eco systems that had been created as the world evolved, called for adaptation to rapid changes hence the expertise gained by graduates would make a difference in efforts to drive the desired changes.

She said while COVID-19 pandemic was a threat to the 2022 classes, that did not dampen their mood, instead students remained focused and navigated online learning for their ultimate goal.

Ms Makwinja therefore, said the graduation was a testimony of their strength and resilience and a demonstration of a commitment to excel.

She commended the graduates and urged them to continue to be resilient as they ventured into the industry, to impart their skills in various sectors of the economy.

Ms Makwinja also encouraged graduates to play a role in the food production value chain and contribute towards reducing the import bill by striving for food security.

BAC executive director, Ms Serty Leburu said the institution had come up interventions to adapt to the rapid changes of the environment they operated in.

“As BAC we continue to work with the industry and our partners, we assess the market to identify training and development needs to capacitate employees to meet the demands of the new and evolving economies. We are open for engagement on customised training and consultancy to address and meet various business needs” she said

She further said research, innovation, and consultancy were some of the areas they were making strides in, to develop and grow in partnership with various stakeholders.  ENDS
