Chinese Embassy awards top students

The Chinese Embassy has awarded eight distance learning top graduates an amount of P3 750 each for good performance during their studies at Botho University.

Handing over the awards on Wednesday, Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, Mr Wang Xuefeng said the students were the hope of the future leaders.

He said China and Botswana cooperation which dated as far as 1980’s has benefited batswana through China funded  scholarships.

Ambassador Xuefeng also commended  Botho University for displaying excellent performance over the years.

He said their 25-year extraordinary journey with Botho had made the University a talent incubator not only for Botswana but also for the entire Southern Africa region.

“As an international university with campuses in Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Eswatini, Botho has provided training for to many professionals in Africa,” he said.

The Chinese Embassy, he said would continue providing support in helping young people from Botho and other schools.

So far, he said more than 600 Batswana had completed their studies in China and were back  in Botswana to pursue their career.

The awarded students were pursuing different studies such as MSc in Computer Systems Management, Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Primary Education, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing among others.

One of the graduates, Onkemetse Strydom who completed her studies in Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Primary Education thanked Botho University and the Chinese Embassy for such an opportunity.

She indicated that the opportunity would contribute to the development of graduates to become better people around the globe.

Ms Strydom also thanked the Chinese Embassy for always offering Batswana scholarships, saying that enabled students to obtain education to pursue their dreams. ENDS
