Ipelegeng skills development component imparts artisan skills

30 Nov 2022

Ipelegeng Skills Development Component (ISDC) is aimed at equipping the programme beneficiaries with artisan skills and making them ready for better-paying job opportunities elsewhere, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Talita Monnakgotla has said.

She told Parliament that the programme beneficiaries were members of the community who did not ordinarily qualify for enrolment at brigades given the entry requirements at such institutions.

Ms Monnakgotla was responding to a question from Nkange MP, Dr Never Tshabang on how Ipelegeg skills would  assist beneficiaries better than the skills obtained from brigades.

The assistant minister further explained that in collaboration with stakeholders such as Construction Industry Trust Fund (CITF), and Botswana National Productivity Centre, the ISDC provided occupational and entrepreneurial skills.

“It also supports productivity and mindset change, thereby increasing job opportunities for beneficiaries elsewhere.

The ISDC, therefore, complements elementary programmes of other institutions of learning such as brigades that provide artisan skills,” she said.

She said beneficiaries were trained using the CITF model of competency Based Training being open entry and open exit, whereby the duration of training was determined by the magnitude and duration of the project and the modules covered.

Ms Monnakgotla noted that delivery of training for beneficiaries as both on site and at the training centre with trainees certified upon successful completion of training by CITF based on modules covered.

Dr Tshabang also wanted to know the duration of the training and if beneficiaries would be issued with certificates of training. Ends
