Job creation needs planning timelines
29 Nov 2022
Mahalapye East Member of Parliament, Mr Yandani Boko has emphasised the importance of creating targeted plans and timelines with focus on job creation in the country.
Debating the State-of-the-Nation Address on Monday, Mr Boko said unemployment should be addressed as a matter of urgency given the high number of graduates and other jobless young people.
He said the country should put more attention on income-generating initiatives to remedy the situation.
The MP said some young women who were unemployed had found themselves falling prey to inter-generational sexual relationships with elderly men who were more resourced, something he said contributed to social ills.
On the other hand, Mr Boko said those employed were earning low wages and burdened by the high cost of living.
Mr Boko decried lack of resources, which he said was contributing to the decline in the pass rate in schools.
He said during his recent visit to schools in his constituency he discovered that most of them did not have resources such as printers.
He said some villages in Mahalapye East did not have regular access to potable water, a situation he said was unhealthy for the constituents.
Mr Boko said shortage of staff in public clinics in Mahalapye East had led to the few available doctors and nurses being overwhelmed with work.
Additionally, he said there was shortage of medication such as paracetamol and anti-retroviral drugs in clinics in his constituency.
On infrastructural development, Mr Boko said the road linking Makwate and Parr’s Halt border post was in a bad state and that it should be upgraded. ENDS
