Monitoring of cattle rustling continues
29 Nov 2022
Cattle rustling activities and livestock theft continue to be monitored with appropriate mitigation when the need arises, the Minister of Defence and Security Mr Kagiso Mmusi has said.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Mr Mmusi also noted that while stock theft incidents were gradually rising, the status at the moment could not be deemed rampant and did not warrant an emergency plan.
He said the ministry had however devised some initiatives to combat cattle rustling and livestock theft given its negative impact on the livelihood of communities and danger to security.
The initiatives, he said, included deployment of anti-stock theft teams in all police districts, public education with emphasis on duty care, and the use of community cluster strategy as well as regular inspection of butcheries.
MP for Ngami, Mr Caterpillar Hikuama had wanted the minister to explain if there was an emergency plan of action to combat cattle rustling activities and livestock theft in general which, he said seemed to be on the rise, especially in the North West region.
He had also inquired about strategies in place to combat cattle rustling and livestock theft. Ends
