Mothamo Junior Secondary School in Moiyabana on Friday received sanitary pads from Serowe-based government departments health and wellness committees.
Through their joint wellness committee the departments of Civil and National Registration, that of Immigration and Citizenship and the Gender affairs department, donated sanitary pads to girls at the school under a theme titled ‘Restoring the dignity of a young woman’.
Handing over the donation, Mr Mosalagae Disang who is a member of the committee, said their aim was to play a role in safeguarding the well-being of members of the community.
He said being aware of the level of lack in communities whose children were enrolled at Mothamo Junior Secondary School, they saw it fit to step in and assist.
The donation was received by the Deputy School Head Mr Thatayaone Basiamise and the Student Representative Council (SRC) president Larona Segapo.
In her remarks the SRC president said thanked the departments for the donation saying ‘it will greatly benefit the girls whose parents cannot afford to cater for their monthly sanitary pads.’
In his remarks, Mr Basiamise said the donation was meant to restore the girls dignity because once it was affected it might shatter their dreams .
“It is not about the size of the package, but the love that comes with it.
For this we are really thankful,” he said.
Mr Basiamise also addressed boys as they too were in attendance and motivated them not to remain behind in terms of taking responsibility in supporting their fellow sisters.
He said they would in future have daughters, therefore they should learn from tender age how to deal with issues of menstruation on a monthly basis.
The deputy school head encouraged the wellness committee to extend the same gesture to other schools. ENDS
