Clinic upgrade remarkable feat - Tsogwane

28 Nov 2022

Leseding Interiors has been hailed for upgrading Makalamabedi Mobile Stop to a full-fledged clinic.

The commendation was made by Vice President Slumber Tsogwane when officially opening the P4 million facility in Makalamabedi on Saturday.

He said the project was a remarkable feat because it was undertaken at a time when most companies were finding it tough to fulfill their corporate social responsibility obligations due to the COVID-19 induced economic shocks.

Executing a project of that magnitude and value was an uncommon trait, especially with companies not deemed big, Mr Tsogwane said.

He said it was highly commendable for Leseding Interiors to have fulfilled the pledge despite the odds.

Mr Tsogwane said the company had distinguished itself among many successful businesses operating in Botswana.

The gesture, he said, was in line with the country’s vision 2036 pillar on human and social development as well as the Reset Agenda.

“Priority number one of President Dr Masisi’s Reset Agenda was to save lives of the people of Botswana and residents of the country from COVID-19,” the vice president said.

Mr Tsogwane noted that many did not believe the project would materialise.

Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe expressed gratitude to the  company for seeing the need to come on board and assist the ministry in fulfilling its mandate.

Mr Lelatisitswe said it was envisaged that the facility would cater for an average of 351 patients on ARV treatment, 206 under fives and 55 clients with chronic conditions.

He said previously such services were accessed at Makalamabedi Clinic in Ngamiland.

The new facility would also help in decongesting the Ngamiland Makalamabedi Clinic and reduce the long distances residents had to travel for services, he said.

The assistant minister said other services such as general consultation and sexual reproductive health would be introduced in due course.

The clinic consists of an OPD waiting area, reception, child welfare room, dressing and injection room, sexual and reproductive health services room, emergency and observation room.

It includes kitchenette, staff and patients ablution facilities, office for the nurse manager, staff lounge, dispensary and drug store and pharmacy waiting area.

Mr Lelatisitswe said the clinic was fully furnished and equipped, adding that a new ambulance had been procured but had not yet been delivered.

On staffing, he said three general nurses had been appointed and would be reporting for duty once all logistics had been completed.

The ministry had sourced funding for six staff houses and was in the process of appointing a contractor., he said.

Leseding Interiors representative, Mr Mahomed Nadim, said it had always been his family’s dream to provide a clinic to service a remote area.

He said their faith taught them to give to deserving communities especially those who were far from health facilities.ENDS
