28 Nov 2022
Research and innovation are paramount for society to develop, says a senior lecturer for Educational Assessment and Quantitative Research Methods at Kanye Seventh Day Adventist College of Nursing.
Dr Moyo, who was speaking at the 2022 Okavango leadership conference in Shakawe Saturday, encouraged government, organisations and institutions to collaborate for flow of research and innovation.
Research, he said, formed the basis of prosperity as research-based decisions led to strong society and economy, thereby making it possible for the eradication of poverty, unemployment and inequality.
“It boosts sustainability and productivity as it produces new knowledge, which influences decisions,” he said.
Dr Sello said all programmes in the country or organisations should be based on research.
As such he said society should also be in a position to support research and innovation.
Government, he said, needed to do more in research and provide a supportive environment.
Another speaker, Kgosi Benson Dibebe of Xhaoga in the Okavango said to attain prosperity there was need to analyse the strength and weaknesses of organisations.
The traditional leader said networking was also important for organisations.
He observed that achieving prosperity as a society required involvement of both traditional and civic leaders.
Nominated councilor for Okavango Sub-district Council, Mr Molathegi Moyei said the conference’ concept was aligned to President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s Reset Agenda priority area of mindset change.
He encouraged people of Okavango to use the insight to change their lives and bring developments to their sub-district.
Mr Moyei said culture should also be harnessed to enable development of the society and not be a stumbling block.
The event organiser, organisational development scholar under Organisation Leadership and Development Network, Mr Sekwaya Pikinini said the conference was a platform for participants to share ideas and expertise on how to transform the Okavango area.
The theme for the inaugural conference was: Building Prosperity for the Okavango. ENDS
