Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture Mr Tumiso Rakgare is in Morocco for the intergovernmental committee’s 17th session of the Convention for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage commencing today.

A ministry press release says Mr Rakgare  will deliver the keynote address at the week-long meeting scheuled to end Saturday.

“Botswana has also bid to host the 18th convention in Gaborone by the year 2023,” the release states.

According to the release, also on the agenda is  preparation of  implementation strategies mainly through elaboration of operational directives and plans for the wise use of resources as a means of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.

It explains that the convention’s primary function is to promote its objectives among member states, provide guidance on best practices and make recommendations.ENDS
