President committed to rule of law - MP
23 Nov 2022
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is committed to the rule of law and democratic governance as illustrated in his previous State of the Nation Addresses and the inauguration speech.
The sentiments were expressed by Mmadinare MP, Mr Molebatsi Molebatsi during his debate in Parliament on Tuesday.
Mr Molebatsi, also Assistant Minister of Agriculture, quoted the President’s previous addresses to buttress the view and said he consistently stressed his commitment to good governance.
Commitment to good governance, he said, was also visible through the promulgated anti-corruption and anti-money laundering policies and laws passed through Parliament to ensure progress in that regard.
Regarding his constituency, Mr Molebatsi said there had been progress over the past few years, citing the citrus project, a flagship horticultural project that has commenced and would employ about 1 500 people.
He said the registered Maphumuleng Horticultural Society in his constituency and the poultry abattoir in Sefhophe were indicative of strides made in empowering the community.
He urged Parliament to support the transitional two-year National Development Plan (NDP) that would act as a bridge between NPD 12 and 13, saying that critical projects would be undertaken over the period.
Adding his contribution to the debate, Thamaga/Kumakwane MP, Mr Palelo Motaosane said there was need for acceleration of plot allocation in Kumakwane, where he said there was a challenge of land shortage.
He also complained that while many people struggled with access to land, others fraudulently acquired multiple plots. Mr Motaosane urged land boards, government and relevant anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies to take action against corrupt practices in land allocation.
On education, Mr Motaosane called for government to spend more on early education development by ensuring that every child had access to quality nursery schooling as recommended by the Revised National Policy on Education produced by the Kedikilwe Commission of 1994.
He called for the participation of brigades and the Construction Industry Trust Fund in the maintenance of schools since the private sector tended to charge exorbitant fees when contracted to maintain public schools, but performed a shoddy job. ENDS
