22 Nov 2022

Four satellite schools, Mokgacha, Eretsha, Tsodilo Hills and Xhaoga in the Okavango sub-district have been upgraded to fully-fledged primary schools.

Officially opening the Okavango Sub-District Council meeting recently, the sub-council chairperson, Mr Lesedi Boy said they established two more satellite schools at Mohembo East and Rwee which would be operational in January next year.

That, he said brought the number of operational satellite schools in the sub-district to six, including Mowana, Shaikarawe, Danega and Jao Flat.

On other issues, Mr Boy said that the sub-district had made progress in the implementation of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme.

He said 36 public schools in the sub-district had rolled out the programme with an enrollment of 1 682 pupils.

“However, only four public schools have not implemented the programme. Challenges such as lack of additional classrooms and lack of resources have hampered implementation at the remaining schools,” Mr Boy added.

Commenting on the upgrade of satellite schools, Councillor for Nxamasere/Samochima/Xhaoga, Mr Gaopalelwe Ronald appreciated the upgrading of Xhaoga satellite school to a fully-fledged primary school.

Mr Ronald said children of Xhaoga used to walk between five and seven kilometres to schools at Nxamasere and Samochima.

Councillor for Mokgacha/Mogotho, Mr Setshwantsho Maira was also happy that Mokgacha satellite school was among the upgraded schools, saying that would help parents whose children attended school at Mogotho and Seronga. BOPA
