21 Nov 2022

The Central District Council (CDC) leadership recently underwent leadership skills and mind-set change training, courtesy of the Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC).

The four-day training workshop explored topics such as leading self, leading people and leading the way forward.

A consultant with BNPC, Mr Oarabile Lesole, highlighted that the council leadership was duty bound to implement the Vision 2036 pillars, as well as take part in the national development planning.

He thus urged them to always act with integrity and engage their subordinates to promote authentic leadership.

Mr Lesole also encouraged the council leadership to always recognise high performing teams and reward them to boost their morale.

One of the participants, Mr Gabriel Mpofu, who is head of department, Civil and Mechanical Engineering Services at Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) said they used social media platforms and electronic gadgets to improve service delivery.

Mr Mpofu said implementing  the strategy helped to ensure that they attended to issues as soon as they arose, without having to wait for working hours.

He further said as leaders, they took interest in what their teams were working on and monitored their progress to ensure that they were on the right track.

SAA Chief Internal Auditor, Mr Godiramang Koontse, stressed the need for leaders to interact with their subordinates, as the one closest to the action.

Mr Koontse said they also encouraged their subordinates to be creative and innovative, adding that they also endeavoured to create an enabling environment as well as being always approachable.

Meanwhile, Senior Assistant Council Secretary, Mr Mogorosi Kokoro said the workshop was very beneficial, adding that he believed their leadership skills would improve.

He said a lot changes all the time, and as leader, one needed to transform to keep up.

He added that training such as the one on mind-set change was important.

The programme was funded by United National Development Programme (UNDP) in response to the President’s call for mind-set change and gearing up to achieve the Vision 2036 aspirations.
