Greater engagement way to growing informal sector
21 Nov 2022
Structured engagements and improved information and communication channels can go a long way in improving the informal sector, and facilitate its optimal operation, Senior Assistant Council Secretary (SACS) for Ghanzi East, Ms Mogomotsi Seemule has said.
Ms Seemule, who was officiating at a dialogue session organised by Botswana Association of Local Authorities in partnership with UNDP here recently, said the informal sector not only provided employment and sustained livelihoods, but it was also a key contributor to the country’s economy.
For that reason, she said, it was imperative that the sector was supported for it to be vibrant.
Informal sector players were resilient business people who with support could grow their businesses for greater contribution to the economy, she said.
She added one way of supporting the sector was by forging a sustainable relationship with its members through meetings, providing timely and clear information and opening up communications channels.
Ms Seemule said such engagements would allow sector members opportunity to share experiences, forge relationships and build mutual understanding.
Ms Seemule therefore made a commitment to support the sector and urged everyone else to do likewise.
The dialogue was held under the theme: Building Resilience of the Informal Economy. ends
