Transforming can be stressful and challenging.
As such some people will resist it while others will embrace the change, says Central District Council secretary, Ms Baipelelang Photlokwe.
Officially opening a four-day advanced leadership and mindset development workshop in Serowe on Monday, Ms Photlokwe said the programme came at an appropriate time when the council was embarking on a massive transformation agenda.
The training programme was delivered by Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) and was funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
She appreciated UNDP for sponsoring a series of training programmes in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
Ms Photlokwe also applauded UNDP and BNPC for helping them to administer the transformation programme.
Ms Photlokwe also said the training was life-changing and that leaders would be taken through different units of the district council and the mindset change required.
She noted that the training would help the leadersto be self-aware at the personnel level and at work.
She also said it would help the leadership to learn how to run with the transformation agenda.
Mr Oarabile Lesole, a consultant from BNPC, said the programme would help the leaders to develop personally, including living a growth mindset.
He also said the programme would encourage openness and difference of opinion as well as consistency, reliability and mutual trust.
He added that the training would help participants to adopt different leadership styles and to be confident, visible and collaborative.
Mr Lesole noted that the aim was to enhance the leadership capacity of participants through insight and skill.
He said leaders needed to tackle the challenges facing them and that they should think strategically. ENDS
