A Kokotsha youth, Mr Mothusi Bote, has become the latest beneficiary of the presidential bull donation initiative.

Mr Bote, 32, a full time farmer, received the beef master bull courtesy of President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi in Kokotsha yesterday.

Presenting the gift, the President said it was meant to increase  cattle herd numbers and improve  breed  quality in Kokotsha’s number two syndicate and surrounding areas.

The syndicate’s total cattle population stands at 433.

President Masisi explained that the initiative was borne out of his vision for a prosperous and wealthy Botswana.

The intention was to reduce the gap between the poor and the rich, he said.

Dr Masisi expressed gratitude that stakeholders came on board to assist him achieve the objective.

Expressing his determination to be exemplary in the course of attaining the Vision 2036 aspiration of prosperity for all, the President outlined his other wishes for the country. They include a crime-free

Botswana where positives surpass negatives,  freedom from hunger and indulgence in alcohol.

President Masisi also said he and his cabinet wanted to be exemplary in all spheres of life.

The overjoyed Mr Bote, who is a member of the syndicate, assured the President that he would take good care of the bull.

He said existing gaps in the agricultural sector needed to be explored as they presented employment and wealth creation opportunities.

Mr Bote said he had a wealth of experience in farming following his studies at Lubu Livestock Training Centre, near Tsabong.

Financed through the Youth Development Fund in 2012 to the tune of P100 000,  he bought 15 heifers and a bull.

Mr Bote said his livestock had since increased to 32 bringing the  family cattle population to 72.

The young farmer prides himself in not practising remote control farming.

He said it was critical to be at the farm full time so as to interact with animals on a daily basis and get first hand information on them.

That would ensure that sick animals got the necessary medical attention on time and others were given whatever assistance they needed, said Mr Bote. ENDS
