The Christian Empowerment Church (CEC) in Mahalapye has donated food hampers, toiletry and second hand clothes to eight needy families from Boseja, Flowertown and Kanamo wards.
Handing over the donation to the families’ representatives on Saturday, Pastor Dimpho Dambe of CEC Mahalapye branch, said the donation was part of the church’s Beacon of Hope programme, which was meant to extend outreach services to the entire community.
“We, as the church, preach about love and it is important that we show such love by helping to uplift the underprivileged members of the community, because love is sharing and sharing is caring. So, we are here to share the love and to appreciate the life that God has given us,” said Pastor Dambe.
He said beneficiaries were chosen through the assistance of the Social Welfare Services to identify families that deserved the donation more.
Appreciating the church’s gesture, Kgosi James Noah of Flowertown Ward said he was happy that beneficiaries would also be able to have a meal during the festive time of the year that brought a lot of joy on most families.
“What you have done for these families is incredibly commendable because these food hampers are enough to last longer and this brings these families comfort,” he added.
Boseja/Flowertown ward councillor, Mr Tumelo Keolekanye applauded CEC Mahalapye for its generosity and compassion.
“Government alone cannot afford to provide all services and therefore it is highly gratifying to see you, as CEC Mahalapye, taking an initiative in helping to support the needy families within the community,” he said.
Mr Keolekanye also thanked those who played a part in organising the donation ceremony and making it a success. ENDS
