09 Nov 2022
Road accidents, injuries and deaths cost Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF) around P200 million every year.
Mr Mompati Bontsibokae, MVAF injury prevention manager said this at a road safety stakeholders’ engagement forum in Palapye recently.
He said their strategy was to reduce road accidents by sharing road safety information, and thus advocated road safety and capacity building to enable stakeholders to deliver. The fund’s corporate communications manager, Mr Mookodi Seisa said their mandate was to enhance quality of life by promoting road safety and rehabilitation of road crash victims through compensation and support of those affected.
Mr Seisa said they appreciated stakeholders as they enabled the fund to achieve its mandate.
To that end they engaged key stakeholders in the development of their strategies.
Deputy District Commissioner, who is also chairperson of the Palapye road safety committee, Mr Tshepho Mogojwe said road safety was for everyone, and called on all to participate in initiatives geared toward it. He noted that between 350 and 450 people died on roads each year, saying that was a big loss to the country.
Mr Mogojwe also said there was need for collaboration among stakeholders in order to bring down the number of road fatalities and accidents by promoting road safety.
He added that stakeholders needed to introspect on how they could implement and promote road safety by giving feedback and sharing challenges and success.
Palapye MVAF branch manager, Mr Mmoloki Dikago said the objective of the workshop was to educate stakeholders on new road safety initiates and to enhance relationships with stakeholders. Ends
