07 Nov 2022

Kazungula Stanbic Branch has donated P20 000 worth of building materials to Chobe Junior Secondary School.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony on Saturday, the bank’s branch manager Mr Kamogelo Gopolang said the materials included ten doors, locks, windows and switches and were for the refurbishment of the boys’ hostels.

The bank also donated sanitary towels for the girls.

Mr Gopolang said the bank believed in developing communities hence his branch’s partaking in the refurbishing of the boys hostels.

He said through the refurbishment they believed that the pupils’ academic performance would improve as their living condition would be conducive to learning.

He said the bank remained committed to making an impact in the school and would partner with it.

He implored the learners to take care of the school infrastructure and to report their colleagues who vandalised school property.

Mr Gopolang encouraged them to work hard in order to achieve better grades and implored parents to ensure children did not only study at school but did the same at home.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the school head, Mr Nelson Litiho said the school had an enrolment of 1 099, out of which 309 were boarders.

He said of the 309 boarders, 137 were boys.

Mr Litiho said the main concern for the school was the state of the hostels as the cyclic maintenance was not done for a very long time.

He however said during the last term, the Botswana Defence Force Air Wing helped by maintaining the girls hostels but the boys hostels was left unattended hence  the PTA approached Stanbic Bank for assistance.

He said while Stanbic heeded the call to help the school still remained with a challenge of manpower to carry out the maintenance.

Mr Litiho noted that proper accommodation for the pupils would enhance learning and he assured the bank that the school would ensure that the maintained facilities were properly looked after.

Proposing a vote of thanks, Kgosi Thuso Wasetso of Kasane Central thanked Stanbic Bank for the gesture, saying it was demonstration that the bank was not only interested in making profit from the community but was also interested in planting back into the same community.

Kgosi Wasetso implored the students to be responsible and take care of school buildings.

He urged them to guard themselves against negative peer pressure, alcohol, drugs, smoking and other activities that could disturb their learning. BOPA
