President Masisi attends COP27 summit

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is in Egypt to attend the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27).
The two-day session, commencing today in Sharm El-Sheik, will tackle the growing challenge of climate change and consider progress on the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs media statement says Dr Masisi will participate in a number of high level sessions including those addressing food security, climate finance, water security and the climate crisis in Africa.
The release states that the President will also deliver a statement which will among others inform on Botswana’s National Climate Change Policy and steps being taken to address climate change and its effects.
He will deliver another statement on behalf of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries which Botswana is the current chair, says the statement.
It says President Masisi will host a high-level event in collaboration with the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment, UNEP Regional Office for Africa; African Development Bank and African Union Commission under the theme: Empowering A Climate-Resilient Africa for the 21st Century; Articulating Vision and Opportunity Policies, Technologies, Investment and Cooperation.
President Masisi is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Agriculture Mr Fidelis Molao, Minister of Environment and Tourism Ms Philda Kereng and senior government officials. Ends
