Moreomabele to get storm water drainage

01 Nov 2022

The long-awaited storm water drainage project in Moreomabele village will be undertaken under the Community Constituency Project Fund .

Speaking during a kgotla meeting recently, Serowe North MP, Mr Baratiwa Mathoothe said the project would commence in the near future as per the constituents’ request.

However, he advised that in the future people should consider income-generating projects when choosing projects for the fund.

The MP also said that for any project, precedence would be given to contractors in the immediate locality when awarding tenders and other contractors would only be considered in the absence of the required expertise from the villagers.

On another matter, Mr Mathoothe told residents that plans were afoot to resuscitate Serowe milk processing plant.

He said that before its closure, farmers in the area benefit much from the plant as they supplied it with milk.

The MP informed residents that there would be no new projects to be undertaken this financial year due to budgetary constraints.

He noted that only maintenance and completion of already existing projects had been budgeted for.

Mr Mathoothe said government insisted that maintenance should be carried out by local companies registered under the PPADB.

Meanwhile, for their requests, the people of Moreomabele through the Village Development Committee decried shortage of land and delay in the allocation of residential plots in the village.

On the issue of delayed allocation of land, the MP suggested that the landboard be a fully equipped entity with personnel that could carry out the process of allocating land from stage one to the last without outsourcing some of the servicing to council. Ends
