Cancer Stiletto Walk tomorrow
27 Oct 2022
As is the norm, Breast Cancer Awareness month will come to an end with a two-kilometre stiletto walk in Gaborone tomorrow.
Cancer Association Botswana (CAB) mobiliser, Mr Kebaemetse Kesenogile told BOPA in an interview on Wednesday that the stiletto walk would start from Notwane Grounds at 6am to the Princess Marina Hospital circle and back to Notwane Grounds, where other activities would take place.
Mr Kesenogile said the walk, which had become synonymous with the closing of activities of the cancer awareness month, was about supporting the fighters, admiring survivors and remembering the departed.
He said it was also about women and men wearing pink and walking in heels to sensitise people about the pain that cancer patients endure during treatment.
He said the walk would be held under a theme: Living Beyond Breast Cancer, adding that it resonates well because cancer could be cured and does not always result in death.
He further said the walk would be complemented with education as well as breast examinations, including mammograms.
Mr Kesenogile said they would also promote healthy lifestyles, facilitating access to medical care as well as providing counselling and support to those affected.
He encouraged people, both male and female, to examine their breasts on a monthly basis, advising them to consult doctors should they find anything strange.
“Early detection of cancer is vital to healing,” he said, adding that if detected on time, cancer could be successfully treated.
The stiletto walk is open to both men and women for a P200 fee to get merchandise. Ends
