Some residents of Kanye South constituency wish to be removed from the constituency and form a new one that will enable them to access services better.

Making submissions before the Delimitation Commission on Thursday, Kgosi Keorapetse Legabala of Selokolela said like other areas, they have the right to public services, some of which they were not getting due the vastness of the area.

Kgosi Legabala stated that village dynamics differed, but because Constituency Community Funds were meant to be shared by villages in a given constituency, those in far-flung areas lagged behind in developments compared to those closer to amenities, therefore, it would be better to demarcate the constituency into two to allow for better service delivery.

Representing Selokolela residents, Mr Kgangetsile Tlhalefang concurred with Kgosi Legabala that Kanye South was so big it burdened service providers and proposed that it be split into two to make it manageable.

The envisaged constituency, he noted, would be called Ngwaketse South and would include such villages as Selokolela, Sesung, Seherelela, Tsonyane, Betesankwe, Sese, Lefoko, Maokane, Thankane, Mokhomma, Lorolwane, Gasita and Metlobo.

Representing Seherelela residents, Mr Elvis Motlogelwa was of the view that the envisaged constituency should be called Ngwaketse West and its boundary should start from Motlhalawakgomo stretching as far as Lorolwane.

He stated that residents wished for their culture to be revived, preserved and promoted and grouping people of the same culture would assist in that regard.

Ms Tefoyaone Kokong of Lefoko shared the sentiments with other speakers that it was time for them to have a constituency that included people of the same culture.

She said given that residents of Kanye South’s needs were not the same, it was imperative for them to have a constituency accommodating people of the same needs in order to derive optimum output from constituency community projects.

She said Lefoko and the afore-mentioned villages should be removed from Kanye South and form own constituency.

Ms Ratanang Ramoleele of Betesankwe said they should be removed from Kanye South and form a constituency to be called Ngwaketse South West or Kanye South West.

She concurred with other speakers on the envisaged boundary.  ENDs
