BDF donates to Tonota Primary
23 Oct 2022
Officer Cadets Class 43 of 2022 on Wednesday donated equipment that included a projector, laptop, industrial stove and refuse cage to Tonota Primary School as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which is one of the non-curriculum objectives Officer Cadets (O/CDT) have to achieve before completing their programme.
Speaking at an occasion to hand over the equipment, Major Norman Tito said the achievement was made possible through their monthly allowances.
He said they chose Tonota for this year’s CSR because they trained there. Major Tito said the equipment would enable teachers to use a multimodal form of teaching and interact with pupils.
Deputy Commandant, military College, Col George Bogatsu said the donation was part of a series of activities that BDF engaged in. He said the event was a true testimony and confirmation of the country’s pillar of human development, which stated that by 2036 Botswana would be a moral, tolerant and inclusive nation that provided opportunities for all.
Col Bogatsu said BDF embraced government’s Poverty Eradication programme that required mutual and united efforts from the community. The 108-year-old school started in 1914, operating from the UCCSA building.
School head, Mr Talks Maleka said the school had 675 students, 62 staff and a reception class, mainstream of Standard 1 to 7 and also catered for People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs).
“The school is doing well in PSLE and has never attained below 70 per cent since 2016. In 2020 the school had pupils who made top 10 in the region and are now doing well at secondary schools,” stated Mr Maleka.
He said after the establishment of an inclusive education in 2006, they started teaching PLWDs survival skills. Tonota Sub-district chairperson, Mr Christjan Machokoto appreciated the gesture. Ends
