Residents want constituency demarcation

18 Oct 2022

Mmathethe/Molapowabojang residents have called for the demarcation of the constituency in order to improve operational efficiency.

Making submissions before the delimitation commission on Monday, Molapowabojang East representative and former area councillor, Mr Calvin Matlale said the constituency was vast, with bad roads and a rocky and sandy terrain.

He called for the demarcation of the constituency, arguing costs incurred during a service delivery expedition should equate efficiency.

Mr Matlale also noted that Molapowabojang was densely populated and the third largest village in the Southern District after Kanye and Moshupa.

He said the constituency should be subdivided into two and that the other constituency should be called Ngwaketse East.

He said the envisaged constituency would be formed by villages that were in the eastern part of the Mmathethe/Molapowabojang constituency.

For his part, Mr Moses Eletsang representing Molapowabojang West said Gasita, Maokane and Lorolwane were too far when the area MP wanted to consult residents and that they should be removed from the constituency.

He said a constituency should not overlap into more than one administrative boundary and that political boundaries should be aligned to administrative boundaries.

He concurred with Mr Matlale that the demarcation of the constituency was long overdue. Molapowabojang West councillor, Mr Alex Ramatshogwana also said a village should fall under only one administrative boundary.

Mr Borethe Kgakalo of Lorolwane proposed that the village should be under Kanye South constituency. Segwagwa councillor, Mr Mogorosi Naolakgosi said the constituency that would be formed by villages that were in the eastern part of Mmathethe/Molapowabojang constituency should be called Ngwaketse South East or Kanye South East or Molapowabojang/Lotlhakane East.

He said Sesu, Selokolela, Lotlhakane East, Kgomokasitwa and Ntlhantlhe should form the envisaged constituency.

Ms Mmadudu Wapula of Gasita proposed that her village should be under Kanye South for better access to services. BOPA
