Residents want update on Nokaneng-Gumare road project

16 Oct 2022

Residents of Gumare have expressed concern over slow progress in maintenance of the road between Nokaneng and Gumare

They raised the concern during a kgotla meeting addressed by  Ngami MP, Mr Caterpillar Hikuama on Thursday.

Kgosi Moitshepi Molelwa of Gumare said the 37km stretch road between Nokaneng and Gumare was in a bad state, but the engaged contractor was not on site.

One of the residents, Mr Makgetho Makgetho, said the state of the road was disheartening.

And residents were planning to send a delegation to relevant ministries regarding the road as well as the promised hospital, which never took off.

Another resident, Mr Elisha Mouti complained about delay in completion of the agriculture service centre, which he said was expected to assist farmers with granaries and grow the agriculture sector in their area.

In response, Mr Hikuama said the Nokaneng-Gumare road was far from over since there was a case before court between the contractor and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works.

He said the ministry had written letters terminating the contract since the contractor was said to have abandoned the project, but the contractor appealed the matter.  ENDS
